Unit tests

I did a little digging and it seems we have a

Are there any others not mentioned?

This would have the added advantage of easy testing compatibility on dispersed shells and environments.
Should we define a set a "officially" supported environments which we then try to maintain?
Are we looking at a one script fits all scenario or maybe have different launchers? ie windows batch (being the odd one out which comes to mind)

This task needs to be completed as part of milestone Version 0.1 see #2

Since it is in python shell script unit tests are not applicable.
