The tip of lustre-release now target kernel-5.14.0-427.42.1.el9_4.src.rpm which has additional changes that makes the patches for 5.14-rhel9.4.series no longer apply to 427.37.
Easiest way to fix this is just replacing 427.37 427.42 in the document. Or reword it to say "Take the very latest version of the kernel-5.14.0-427 RPM series" instead of referencing a specific instance of the 5.14.0-427 kernel series.
Great document by the way!

I'd think the patches should still work on an older kernel - but I've had some stumbles with version mismatches...
So this is an actual issue and I do wonder how to best address this, as the kernel will keep evolving - as will the patches.
