Gotchas that I currently know about are that:

You'll need to have the Mac address of the device in order to send the wake on lan packet to start the tv up
If you're using the TV wirelessly, you'll need to edit a menu setting in order to support turning on wirelessly
When you first set up the TV, the tv has to be on and you have to confirm that you want the device to make a connection
