With the initial release of InstaWP Connect now being available, let's look at how the desire to tinker with a sites code can be offloaded to a staging site with a good onboarding process through the String Locator plugin.

Initial considerations and thoughts;
It should be a non-intrusive action, meaning it should not prevent any action, but rather encourage the user to consider the alternate routes. Staging sites are always recommended over direct edits of a production site after all.

If a user does opt for a staging site, they should have to do as few steps as possible to make this reality.

  • Can we auto-install the plugin on user-action, and be compliant with the guidelines?
  • Can the stage-setup be triggered externally somehow, so one click gets you the plugin and sets up the staging site?
  • Can we move the user directly to the same screen on the stage-site post-setup if initiated through the String Locator plugin?
