Several compounding factors. One affects parsing, and it can seem to be controlled by disabling optimizations like gshared and inlining, but is quite flaky.

Newer updates seem to cause Roslyn to run until it hits the endianness check. Upstream Roslyn fixed that, but it needs to land in a stable release.

Upstream also wants to remove mcs compilation of BCL, but this is blocked on PPC and S/390 codegen quality.
