#3377 replaced ubuntu-latest with ubuntu-22.04 due to build errors with ubuntu-24. We should however fix those issues and get back to using latest.

Is there a benefit to using latest? Can't we just try to use the latest stable version available (ubuntu-24.04 currently) but without relying on latest?

I think it is a tradeoff between having to remember to update it every 2 years versus being surprised when things break every 2 years.
