In the process of testing editing the GO terms in NOT annotations, I forgot to check the NOT box several times.
I think this is largely because the checkbox is not in a good place in the thought process of making the annotation. Instead of being in the flow from Gene Product to GP to Term Relation, it is a checkbox above the row starting with the Gene Product field. Thus, once I have entered my Gene Product value, my eye follows that row across and then down to the next one and I entirely miss the NOT checkbox because the normal flow of entry forms (both for curation and generally in web entry forms) usually does not involve going back up to the top.
I think it would be a much better workflow for curators if the NOT checkbox was placed WITHIN the row that contains the Gene Product, GP to Term Relation, and GO Term fields. I think the best placement would be immediately right of the Gene Product field as this is consistent with where we display this qualifier in the table of annotations below.
