Currently the values found in the facet for the "Years" are integers in a list:

There are custom implementations of GeoBlacklight which offer a range slider with a histogram for lists of these values. This builds upon community work introduced in the blacklight_range_limit Gem. The Stanford University Libraries integrate this into their EarthWorks application:

As an exercise, please attempt to integrate (and, if possible, customize) the range limit component for your search interface.

Filter search results by date range using a slider interface component

Users must currently filter search results by selecting years as integers
