Support Git-Scm with french translation #961
Comments

on avancera

https://www.transifex.com/git-extensions/
https://www.transifex.com/explore/projects/?search=git
j'attend un retour des mainteneurs.
A faire :

sur git://repo.or.cz/git-gui .

@jnavila i think that if this discussion was in english it could help other contributors who would have similar intentions in the future. Or at least a short summary at the end? |
Bonsoir Jean Noel,
A te lire
Amaury

@pedrorijo91 OK, we switched off line for easier conversation on broader subject. But we can continue online in English for Git. The discussion was about what would be useful/necessary to translate in the git project in general to help people who do not speak english. My short list is:
The last two part would need a change in the architecture of the website. I don't know much of the capabilities of Ruby on Rails, and if the site is supposed to migrate to static pages, how this can be dealt with for easy access for visitors, easy maintenance of the site, easy way for contributors to translations. Another point would how to keep the interaction with the git mailing-list simple and whether there would be a dedicated centralization of translations that would be a single point of interaction with the git development teams, just like for localization of git itself. Then there was the question of how to set this up. Simple repo, use online tools such as transifex or weblate, translate in place or use translation tools. Of course, the solution can be different depending on the artefact, it can even be different according to languages. |
Things are going on: I started with the man pages which are part of the git project. The setup of a translation framework and a first request for comment on the git mailing-list. |
Just noticed #365 - you might find that to be of interest. |
Hello Jean-Noel,
Happy to read you about this subject,
would you be kind to let me know how to support and contribute ?
Best
Amaury

For the moment, there's some discussions as to how this can be integrated. So, it's difficult to provide a definite way to contribute. I'll keep you informed, hopefully soon. |
It seems the french version is already available at https://git-scm.com/book/fr/v2. Can you confirm (and close this issue if true) this is true? @jnavila |
The issue was dealing with the translation of the other parts of the website: the git manpages and the website itself. I tried to start something on that but didn't do much in the end. |
Hi all, I'm trying to revive the project with a different setup. You can find the translation project going on here: https://github.com/jnavila/git-manpages-l10n It is base on po files, which you can edit with poedit. Otherwise, you can translate in a web browser at https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/git-manpages/translations/ With this setup, the translation is opened to other languages too! |
Hi,
I would like to support Git-Scm with french translation.
Would you be kind to let me know if you are interested in,
then, if you would be kind to setup an language files system.
best
Amaury
