Is Tide still under active development? #888
-
Hi all, I'm curious if one of the maintainers might be able to comment on the status of this project and what the future ahead looks like? |

Heya, yeah that's a good question! - I guess the practical short answer is: no, Tide is not very actively being developed right now. The design of Tide is my responsibility, and my attention for the past year has mostly gone into developing the underlying Rust features required to make projects like Tide work better in the future. Now for the longer answer: just because we're not actively pushing out features doesn't mean the project is abandoned, and we have no plans to abandon it either. We're still merging maintenance patches, and folks (including myself) are successfully using it in projects. From my perspective the Rust async ecosystem is still in a fledgling state, and in order for projects like Tide to soar we need to improve the underlying fundamentals first. So that's where why my focus is there right now. For example, one of those fundamentals will be figuring out async traits, which will likely lead us to rewrite Tide and I hope that somewhat answers your question! |
