Google Calendar UI.png

Using Google Apps for Business, we use an alias/Google Group that includes all team members (the alias is team@...).

Sometimes people send calendar invitations to the alias. Everything works fine and it appears on my calendar properly, but it only shows 3 attendees: me, the inviter, and 'team'.

Checking out people using the Google Calendar UI, it seems to expands team back out and show each user's responses, etc. I've attached an edited screenshot that hopefully shows the UI.

It'd be nice to see all of these people in the Thunderbird attendee's UI!

I don't see any API documentation for this immediately, but maybe something can be done.

Is this about expanding in an email invitation and/or the the summary/event dialog/tab?

If also the former, can you share an example email invitation with a group invited? Are you also a member of the group?

I had spoken with Patrick via IRC, as far as I've understood this is about expanding a group alias email into the single attendees, so we can display them as separate attendees in the event dialog. I didn't see any API either to expand those mailing lists into their single attendees. The calendar list api does not have a parameter for that. I guess the directory API may be able to give the names for a such alias, but I don't believe this will give us the status.

(In reply to [:MakeMyDay] from comment #1)

Is this about expanding in an email invitation
No, there's no need to do this -- the invitations are getting routed properly (and there's nothing we could do here anyway since the person sending the invitation is not using Thunderbird/Lightning).

and/or the the summary/event dialog/tab?
It's about showing ALL of the users in the summary/event dialog/tab.

This might be possible using https://developers.google.com/admin-sdk/directory/v1/guides/manage-group-members but it is unclear to me how to determine which email is a group alias without sending all emails to this API, which would mean a lot of API requests and privacy concerns. Keeping this bug open, but I don't have high hopes. Let me know if you have ideas.

IIUC when users from a group accept, they get added as separate attendees with their own status. Turns out the group members API has a way to list all members, but indeed we can't get the attendee status. I'm going to close this one out since I'm pruning issues, if Google resolves https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/134133842 we can open a new issue.
