In some situations it would be 'nice to have' to listen to the last radio messages again.

Applications could include:

  • rewind to the last emergency calls
  • listen to the weather forecast again
  • avoid to miss certain information like regular traffic warning/ forecast/ etc.

I see the problem to find the current channel of the ship radio if the recording should match the ship radio. It could be reduced to a separate (set) of channel(s) like 10, 16. This way it should be easy to record the radio messages and provide them in a list like old telephone answering machines did.

What do you think?

With 2 RTL SDR the complete VHF marine band could be covered.

If RTLSDR-Airband would be combined with AIS audio decoding all the channels would be recorded and AIS would be decoded too.

The decoded files could be presented with a simple D3.js timeline chart. If one clicks on a item in the timeline the corresponding audio file would be played in the browser.

I did created some table of the channels with the bandwidth needed.
