MFEM 4.3 Released

Dear MFEM community,

Version 4.3 of MFEM was released on July 29, 2021. Some of the new additions in this release are:

Meshing improvements

• Support for high-order Lagrange meshes in VTK format.
• New non-conforming mesh format that can be used to restart a parallel AMR computation.
• New mesh quality metrics and untangling capabilities of mesh optimization algorithms.

Discretization improvements

• Variable order spaces, serial p- and hp-refinement.
• Low order refined discretizations, solvers and field transfer improvements.
• BR2 DG methods, Kelly error indicator, new Navier-Stokes features, ...

Better solvers

• Support for AIR-AMG preconditioners for non-symmetric systems from hypre.
• Generalized Multigrid class to support non-geometric multigrid.
• New solver interface for linear problems with constraints.
• Matrix-free auxiliary Maxwell solver for H(curl) problems.
• AlgebraicCeedSolver for matrix-free algebraic p-multigrid for diffusion problems.
• Initial support for hypre's mixedint capability, to save memory in large problems.

High-performance computing

• AMG preconditioning on GPUs based on the hypre library.
• Initial support for GPU-accelerated versions of PETSc.
• GPU-accelerated versions of many TMOP mesh optimization algorithms.
• Explicit vectorization for Fujitsu's A64FX ARM microprocessor architecture.
• Many improvements in MFEM's device memory manager.

And much more

• New and improved integrations with libCEED, Ginkgo, Caliper, FMS, GSLIB, and MUMPS.
• 11 new examples and miniapps.
