Challenges applying fix with javascript slider and fading text

I appreciate this solution, and am trying to implement it at http://mauitradewinds.com/test/test4.htm The scaling bug is corrected initially, but the image height is excessive in portrait mode, and the caption extends horizontally beyond the viewport. Once I have intentionally scaled the page, the bug returns.
