Has anyone ever needed a hasOnlyRole('some_role');

Hi

In my app a user can have multiple roles, but I need to check if a user have only a specific role

I guess something like this could work

public function hasOnlyRole(string $onlyThisRole): bool
{
    if($user->roles()->count() === 1 && $user->hasRole($onlyThisRole)) {
        return true;
    }

    return false;
}

but this just feels like overkill, are there a better way ?

I think what you've mentioned is probably the most efficient approach, as the count avoids looping through things multiple times.
