As mentioned in Pharo issue #15233, in Squeak 6.0 #22104, dragging an object from an inspector window and dropping it in a workspace defines a variable that refers to an InspectorField rather than the dragged object:
Demo.Squeak.Inspector.Workspace.Drag-Drop.mp4
When dropping on an instance variable in another inspector window, the variable is made to refer to the dragged object as I would expect:
Demo.Squeak.Inspectors.Drag-Drop.mp4
So I’m assuming the workspace behavior is a bug.
