1996 heads are different then all the years before it. The top
end and the intake ports are unchanged but the exhaust ports are
larger having a much wider oval shape to them. </font>

combustion chambers are tighter and have a lower volume as well
as a clover-shaped surface. The compression was bumped up to
about 9.5:1. Oddly enough, even with all these major changes,
the engine only gained 5 h.p. Many believe that the engine is
detuned, I totally agree. </font>

have found a problem with my 96 heads that I believe could be a
common problem or a factory mistake. The exhaust valve guides
toward the center of the head (Cyls 3 and 4) were in the wrong
spot, they are much lower into the exhaust ports then they
should be, you can see them sticking out in one cyl and not in
the other, this causes the valve guide seal to come loose and
potentially the engine might smoke.</font>
