Search URL and parameter inconsistencies

I wanted to be able to to link to the search page with query parameters in place and the page to load with those parameters set. This works. However, the query params and the page state can get out of sync.

For example, the sortdir does not update when the sort icon is clicked for the Created column.

There are other bugs in place related to this.
