Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I want to use the latest multimethod version in our project alongside pandera, to get some of the improved support in it.

Describe the solution you'd like
I'd like to upgrade the version of multimethod used in the repo, which will require replacing use of the deprecated multimethod.overload class. I have gotten this working (I think) and will follow on with a PR.

Describe alternatives you've considered
I think that replacing the use of multimethod with hand-rolled overloading proposed in #1576 is probably going to be a lot of work as it does what is does rather well. Also I believe that as of 1.12, multimethod has released fixes to the bugs that were encountered by this project and which resulted in the pin to <=1.10 (at least those I can find issues for).
