Is your feature or enhancement request related to a problem or limitation? Please describe

It would be nice to have unit tests to avoid regressions from being merged into main

Describe your enhancement idea

Implement a set of system tests that verify existing functionality

Describe alternatives you've considered

We can manually test for each PR, but that doesn't prevent the possibility of an error slipping through the test phase
