How to Build

Build Script

A number of dependencies are required to build Terminal Fighter

The build.sh script has been made available to ease the build steps. To build TerminalFighter and run its tests, run build.sh with the src command.

./build.sh src

Aside from runtime dependencies, the following are required to build Terminal Fighter:

  • CMake

  • A C++17 compiler

Other commands available are:

  • format will lint all the source code and format it according to the astylerc file, astyle will need to be installed for this.

  • docs build documentation out of the inline comments in the source using Doxygen.

  • clean will remove any old build artifacts.

  • all builds the source, docs, and formats the code.

Dependencies

A number of dependencies are required to build Terminal Fighter, a non exhaustive list includes:

  • pkg-config-0.28

  • SDL2_image-2.0.0

  • freetype-2.8

  • SDL2_ttf-2.0.12

  • SDL2-2.0.3

  • SDL2_mixer-2.0.0

  • glog

  • yaml-cpp

These can be installed from source using the installer.sh script.

Using Docker

The build.sh can be ran in a docker environment. Any arguments used for the build.sh script can be used with the docker_build.sh script. Additionally, the commands init and shell are also available.

  • init will create the docker image, this will need to be called on a fresh clone or whenever the Dockerfile changes.

  • shell starts an interactive shell in the docker environment, this is mainly for debug purposes in Docker.

Using a build.sh command for example would look like

./docker_build.sh src

Settings

Default settings are included in the config.example directory, but Terminal Fighter by default reads from a config directory. If the config directory is not found, Terminal Fighter will attempt to copy config.example to config, it can also be manually copied.

Running with High DPI

There is minimal support for high_dpi screens. This setting is called high_dpi in the config/video_settings.yml file.
