You can do a warning in Markdown that will render on GitHub. I would just create a new file README.md with the warning and rename README.rst to README-OLD.rst. |

I wish I could add some admonition/warning styling, but I'm not sure how to do that in .rst in a way that github .rst parser will recognize.
