You will find 18Mag substantially different from most 18xx games. Please read the rules thoroughly.

  • New Rule: If three consecutive ORs occur where no train was purchased, the phase will advance
  • Some track tiles are double-sided.
  • The yellow "B" (Buda & Pest) tile must be laid in a fixed orientation that splits the cities to be on the east and west side of the river.
  • All trains are available at the start.
  • No trains ever rust.
  • 13 player-owned Minor companies are the only entities that build track, run routes, and buy trains.
  • Some minors start with "terrain tokens" that can be turned in to pay for all terrain costs on a single tile lay.
  • Share companies sell "services" to the minors (additional tile lays, terrain costs, token costs, trains, route upgrades).
  • Up to three services can be bought each OR by each minor. Price of services is a function of phase and number of services already bought.
  • Share companies all effectively start in receivership with a randomized share price. The first player to own two share of a share company become president.
  • During the OR, share companies only token (if they have a president) and pay dividends (controlled by president).
  • Share company tokens add 10Ft to revenue of city. They block as normal.
  • Player start with no cash, minors start with 50 Ft and a 2 train.
  • Players choose minors and a subset of stock for free during an initial draft round.
  • Minors can scrap trains prior to running route. They are not required to own a train.
  • Minors always split dividends with owner 50/50
  • Each new train type purchased advances the game phase. The OR in which this occurs will always be followed by a SR.
  • Game end triggered after 4th train type has been purchased. Then there will be three last ORs after the next SR.
  • Possible starting values for the share companies are 60, 65, 70, 75, or 80 Ft.
  • The RABA off-board bonus pays +20 Ft in the Yellow and Green phases, and +30 Ft in the Brown and Gray phases.
  • Once paid for, a rail-car benefit must be used.
  • New Rule: If neither train company had income (no train was sold during the current OR) put one token (you may use the station tokens of a minor company which is not in play) onto one of the train card stacks. If no train was bought for three consecutive Operating Rounds (the third token is put onto a train card stack) the game advances to the next phase. The Round Indicator tile showing the next phase is put on the round indicator space on the map board. Put the Round Indicator token onto the red circled OR space, no matter how many ORs were played. The game continues with the current OR, and after all Major Companies had their turn the game continues with a Share Round.
  • The plan is to implement the solo game and options.
  • The 3-5 player rules and map and the 2 player rules and map are implemented.
  • When you use a terrain token, it will automatically apply to the next tile you place.
  • When you buy a rail-car benefit, it will automatically apply to the first route possible.
  • For the 2 player game, the RABA rail-car will try to convert a train to a plus-train first if there are too many stops for a conventional train, and if not, will give the off-board bonus. Note that only one is possible.
